Is it difficult to learn/ understand Kanazawa dialect, Japanese language ?

I’m Sati. I have asked a question from my friend who lived in Middle East, recently. One of his life goal is living Japan, but he’ve never learnt Japanese yet…so he was wondering how difficult to learn Japanese is ? 

So I would like to share how did I answer this question to my friend.

If you are interested in living Japan. Some where not too busy as Tokyo or Osaka but still need to feel a good balance of entreatment, rich culture and  nature… Kanazawa city is one of best option for you.

Here is my opinion about learning Japanese especially thinking to live in a country side where has accent.

How difficult to learn Japanese as the 2nd or 3rd language ?

For me, a Japanese normal language learner, Even leaning English is not easy at all ! Especially for living but not for traveling.

For example, Japanese language is very unique. Here I picked some points you must know the big differences from English step by step.

 

1. Japanese has 3 letters.

In English, there are only 26 letters. There are 2 different ways of writing: Capital and lower letter.

On the other hand, Japanese has 46 letters each for Hiragana and Katakana. 


Japanese children ( Primary year 1 )will learn these total 92 Hiragana and Katakana letters.

What’s more, there are 2136 Kanji letters which is commonly used in life in Japan. Japanese students must complete within compulsory education ( until Grade 9 / Junior high school ) , anyway.



 

2. Japanese Grammar is different.

There are 8 large types of words in English like; nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, articles, prepositions and conjunctions. 

There are also same types of words in Japanese too but the system of making sentences are different.

For example, verb is most important words in English and when you make a sentence, it’s necessary, but in Japanese, verb is not that important. Some sentences doesn’t need it. And the order of making sentences are different.

And also some types are NOT exist in English, for example; adjective verb. On the other hand, some types of words are not exist in Japanese either like; comparative.

Telling you all about Grammar is very difficult and big topic to me so  let me skip.
